The Global Campus Classroom is one of flagship activities implemented by the Global Campus of Human Rights in cooperation with its 7 Regional Master programmes. As a joint research activity, the Global Campus Classroom brings together students, alumni, and researchers from 7 regions as well as experts from civil society organisations, UN agencies and state representatives.
The 2022 edition of the GC Classroom was devoted to the Internal Displacement and was hosted by the University of Pretoria on May 31-June 4. Throughout the week participants attended expert panels, keynote speeches, analysed and discussed the issue of Internal displacement with UN special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons – Cecilia Jimenez Damary, their peers, researchers and experts such as Sima Samar, Right Livelihood laureate , Manfred Nowak – GC Secretary General, Veronica Gomez – GC President, Maya Sahli-Fadel, Special rapporteur on Refugees , Asylum Seekers, Internally displaced Persons and Migrant in Africa, and others. On the last day of the event participants also visited the Apartheid Museum and Soweto, where Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu lived.
The Global Campus Caucasus programme was represented by three students – Volha Khvasevich, Nuno Oliveira, Kristine Bdoyan, programme Alumnus – Oleksandr Kyselov, Research coordinator (online participation) – Dr Yevgen Gerasymenko and Programme Coordinator – Kristine Gevorgyan. #GCCaucasus team presented research on “Emergence Actions in the War in Ukraine: Role of State and Non-State Organisations in supporting IDPs”.
Apart from Global Campus Classroom throughout the week a series of administrative and governance meetings as well as Academic council meeting were held where Programme Coordinator – Kristine Gevorgyan – participated.
